Bible Study Notes - Ezekiel Knew Jesus?
Ezekiel Knew Jesus?
Eph. 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
The easiest way for Satan to distract us from accomplishing the mission that Christ left for us is to get our eyes off the truth of Christ and focus on anything else, even if what we are focused on is not necessarily sinful (family, work, country, hobbies). The less we know of the Bible, the more vulnerable we become. We don’t need to believe a lie as much as not allow the truth to control our minds and therefore control our actions.
Let’s look at some examples from our own lives to see if this is evident in our own church contexts.
QUESTION: What are some honest thoughts you have struggled with concerning the Old Testament, like the book of Ezekiel?
QUESTION: How would you confirm your own interpretation is correct after reading a book?
QUESTION: How would the early church in the Book of Acts confirm their interpretation?
2Pet. 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
2Pet. 1:4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
If we don’t understand the promises of God rightly, can we truly say they have power? A car is a powerful machine, simply being aware of that doesn’t mean one knows how to operate it correctly. The Bible is the same. We all agree that it is powerful, but if we don’t know how to use it properly, the Bible can also be dangerous.
QUESTION: What examples do you have from your past where you have seen the Bible mishandled and led people down the wrong path?
We sent out the qualifications of elders/deacons this week in preparation for nominating new deacons and elders. These qualifications given by Paul in Timothy and Titus help to protect local churches from elders who are bad leaders, theologically weak, or even false teachers. This is extremely important because they guide and protect the congregation, not in their own wisdom, but in the wisdom of God’s word. According to Ephesians 4:11-16, Paul says it is the responsibility of the elders and teachers to train the congregations so they do not fall into false teachings or the ways of the world.
QUESTION: Why do you believe Christians today find it hard to trust that Elders will train them and teach them in the word faithfully?
QUESTION: How can we help our church grow together, as stated in Ephesians 4, “into the fullness of Christ?”
Col. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
QUESTION: What application should we make from Paul’s instructions from Col 3:16?
QUESTION: Is Bible knowledge primarily gained by individual study or within the context of a local church under the leadership of biblical elders?
